Graco Blossom 4-in-1 Seating System High Chair
Our Expert Review
The Graco Blossom is so much more than just a high chair. It is truly a seating system that caters for your baby from newborn all the way through to using it for your older child, who just needs a boost to sit at the table with you. It is feature packed, does not take up too much space in your kitchen, and importantly, it is very comfortable and easy to clean.
So what do you get with the Blossom? Well, first you get your basic high chair. Although using the word basic is an understatement with this baby high chair. As a newborn high chair, it offers full recline for bottle feeding, most chairs to not recline fully. When your baby starts holding their own bottle, you can use the second stage recline to give them a little bit of an angle, this makes holding the bottle easier for them. Then, of course, you have the upright position for the older baby when they start on purity or other solids. The upright position can be used for feeding and play alike. The chair is easy to recline using the large red handle located on the back of the seat. So if baby falls asleep during play you can easily lay them back and not have to wake them.
The chair is well padded and for the comfort of your newborn baby has an infant insert. The 5 point harness allows you to strap your baby in securely. The shoulder straps can be removed once baby is old enough to want and need some freedom. The infant insert, the cushion seat cover, as well as the straps, are all machine washable.
The Graco Blossom has 4 wheels, the two back wheels swivel to allow you to move the chair around easily. It has a 6 level height adjustable foot rest. The chair itself is also height adjustable, which is great if you want to feed baby sitting on a lower stool. This means that it easily adjusts to different feeding heights between Mom and Dad (so Dad has no excuses anymore at feeding time).
It has not one but three trays, all machine washable. The top tray is clear and has a cup holder space and ridges on the edges. The trays are easily removed if you dont need them.
Finally, the Graco Blossoms seat can be removed from the frame of the high chair to become portable and be used as a booster seat on your normal kitchen or dining room chair. It securely straps to any chair and the groin harness will still keep your baby strapped in securely. The back of the chair can also be removed along with cushioning and straps to make it a lovely chair for your growing child to use to sit at the table with you. This feature also means you can use the chair for two babies simultaneously, seating your young toddler in the booster whilst your older one sits in the youth chair. The height adjustments on the youth chair come in handy as it can adjust as your child grows.

High Chairs Buying Guide
What is a high chair?
A high chair is an essential piece of furniture that you will need from when your baby starts eating solids at around 6 months. Your high chair will serve more than one purpose, many parents use it not only for feeding, but to keep baby safe while they are cooking or cleaning. Baby can play and in some high chairs even sleep in them. Whether you are going to be using a hook on chair, full high chair, or a convertible baby high chair, you are definitely going to need one.
Most high chairs will offer a padded chair that is raised to around table level. Most also have padded seating for the comfort of your baby. Some have reclining features and height adjustments. Many high chairs cater for newborn babies all the way up to toddler age. Some can only be used from 6 months or older when the baby can sit comfortably on their own.
You get the folding high chair which packs away for easy storage. Some cannot collapse at all and for these you need to have the space available to accommodate them in your kitchen. High chairs range from very expensive wooden ones or full seating systems with all the bells and whistles, to very economical and basic models.
There are many different high chairs on the market. There are the very practical full high chairs like the Ikea high chair. Or if you are somebody who has very limited space and like to be able to take your high chair along with you when you travel, you should consider a hook on chair. This is not a full high chair but clips onto your table. Then of course there are the full seating systems which are feature packed high chairs such as the Graco Blossom. Another option out there is the convertible high chair which changes from a high chair to a separate table and chair.
Lest we forget for all the campers and outdoor people, there is a material camping high chair, which is like your standard camping chair but built just for baby. There are also wrap material high chairs that essentially just strap your baby to any chair using material, no seat involved.
How do I know my child is ready for a high chair?
Most babies are ready for a high chair when they start eating solids. By this time they are also sitting by themselves and able to hold their head up on their own. This is usually between 4 to 6 months in age. They use the high chair until about 3 years of age, although some high chairs offer a lot longer use such as the Stokke Tripp Trapp.
Not all high chairs are suitable for newborn babies. Only those with a full recline action and comfortable padding will be able to cater for your newborn. Babies are curious creatures, so to have a high chair that allows them to sit at your level while you are cooking or eating is a big plus, and a sturdy, padded high chair will allow for that.
The thing to remember is that the earlier you put your baby in a high chair, the more they will get used to it. You can start off with shorter time period and give them toys to play with on the tray. They will learn to love being in the chair, which will give you your hands free time for cooking and cleaning and anything else.
Remember to make your baby as comfortable as possible in their high chair as you are going to ask them to sit in it for long periods of time. The padded options are good for this. The harder more restrictive seats are really only for feeding time and can only be used for babies from around 6 months upwards.
Are high chairs adjustable?
There are chairs that adjust and those that dont. Your basic budget high chairs are the ones that do not offer any adjustments. They remain at one level and have no recline function. These are the smaller compact chairs and great for if you have little space available in your kitchen or dining areas. Of course your hook on high chairs do not adjust either.
Many high chairs though, will have some form of adjustment or the other. They either recline or are height adjustable and some offer both functions. Then you get the full seating systems that not only adjust but have more options than just being used as a high chair. Your wooden high chairs are generally not adjustable. However you do get the wood high chairs that are convertible into a table and chair.
Your adjustable high chairs with full recline are suitable for newborn babies. Others that do not have full recline are only suitable for older tots. The height adjustments on the chairs, if they offer this feature, is great for when you are working on different levels with your baby. Set the chair low and they can be on the same level as you when sitting on the sofa, or high for when eating at a table.
The other form of adjustment your chair could offer is the way it folds for storage. There are some high chairs that do not offer this adjustment and will have to stand in your kitchen without being packed away at all. Then there are the ones that have small compact folds so you can put them behind a door or some other out of the way place until you need them again.
How do you assemble a high chair?
This is not a simple question as there are so many different high chairs on the market and each assemble in their own unique way. It would be best if you read the instruction manual of the high chair you have purchased to make sure that you get it right.
High chairs need to be safe and secure for your baby as they will be spending a lot of time in them, so assembly is very important. Some high chairs come fully assembled and require no effort on your part but to take it out the box. For most chairs you will have to do some assembly, however minimal. Usually this would involve attaching the legs and wheels to the chair itself, in other words building the frame. Usually this would not require any tools as the parts simply click into each other.
Remember, it will not only be the frame you will need to assemble but the padding and the straps. This is very important as you dont want your baby to be able to escape the chair when you are not looking.
Your user manual will tell you how to attach the tray to the chair, how to fold and pack it away as well as how to assemble it. The manual will also help you with how to separate your chair if it is a convertible baby high chair. In the case of a seating system, it will explain how to set up the booster and youth seat options for the different stages of your babys development. Make sure to read your manual thoroughly before attempting assembly.
